When dog lovers talk about “whole-body support,” two nutrients deserve serious attention: omega-3 fatty acid EPA and vitamin A. Used appropriately, EPA helps calm inflammation throughout the body, while vitamin A supports normal vision, immune function, and healthy skin turnover. Together, they can be part of a smart nutrition strategy that supports dogs from nose to tail.
EPA is especially impressive because its benefits reach far beyond a shiny coat. Veterinary sources note that EPA and other marine omega-3s are used to help support dogs with inflammatory skin disease, arthritis, kidney disease, heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and other chronic conditions tied to excessive inflammation. In osteoarthritis, diets with meaningful EPA levels have been shown to help support joint comfort and mobility, and in chronic kidney disease omega-3s are used in kidney-support diets to help slow progression.
Vitamin A has its own wide-reaching value. It is essential for normal eyesight, immune defenses, and epithelial health, which means it helps maintain the integrity of skin and other body surfaces. In dermatology, vitamin A is also used in selected canine skin disorders, including sebaceous adenitis, showing how important it can be in maintaining healthy skin function when used correctly.
Put those together and you have a powerful wellness story: calmer skin, better coat support, healthier barrier function, immune support, and broader support for joints and other inflammation-sensitive systems. That said, more is not always better. Vitamin A is fat-soluble, so dosing matters, and supplements should be chosen carefully with veterinary guidance.
And here is the best part: when that nutrition comes in a peanut-butter-flavored formula, it turns “supplement time” into treat time. Delicious matters. Dogs are a lot more likely to take something consistently when it tastes great, and for many pups, peanut butter is the flavor that makes daily health support feel like a reward.
